Black Tie Attire or Attire Showcasing American Indian Artistry
Evolve or Perish is a sequential evolution of Mvskoke artist, Andrea Day's signature three-dimensional medium, Acrybead™, acrylic painting and hand sewing small clusters of seed beads directly into stretched canvas.
This series of work embodies the significance of A. Day's transformative art innovation, illuminating its pivotal role in forging a unique path towards Mvskoke language and cultural preservation, while challenging and reshaping categorical perceptions of First American fine art within the art industry.
Artworks incorporate Mvskoke and machine languages, drawing inspiration from the resilience of nature and the collaborative energy of A. Day's life in New York City.
Gallery III, Paseo Arts & Creativity Center, 3024 Paseo
Admission is always free, open Tuesday - Friday 11am - 5pm and Saturday 12pm - 5pm.
“Seeds of Tradition: Expressions of Beadwork in Contemporary First American Art” explores various ways beadwork is used as adornment, storytelling and tradition keeping. An enduring and deeply cultural artform, beadwork continues to resonate today as an iconic symbol of indigenous identity and artistry.
The exhibition, featuring artwork by Andrea Day (Muscogee), Yonavea Hawkins (Caddo), Valerie Kagan (Cherokee) and Lynn Traylor (Navajo) will be on display from March 1 to June 30, 2024.
